Project description
The Mundo Verde Charter School project involves a comprehensive site improvement and hardscape package focused on providing durable, high-quality concrete infrastructure for the Washington, DC campus. The scope of work encompasses a wide variety of concrete applications, ranging from standard flatwork to specialized accessibility features. This development is designed to enhance the school’s exterior functionality, ensuring safe and efficient movement for students and staff across the campus grounds.
A significant portion of the estimation focus was placed on precision takeoffs for diverse paving requirements and curb systems. The project includes extensive installation of 4″ and 6″ concrete paving, reinforced steps, and specialized ADA ramps to meet local DDOT standards. Our detailed assessment ensured that all structural requirements, including gravel aggregate bases and rebar reinforcement, were accounted for to guarantee long-term stability in high-traffic educational environments.
Our estimation team provided critical oversight by identifying and noting several contradictions and missing details within the project plans. For instance, specific curb types lacked height and reinforcement data, and certain wall designations were clarified as flush curbs based on technical details. By providing these clarifications and rigorous quantity takeoffs, we delivered a transparent bidding framework that addresses the technical complexities of institutional site work.
Key Details
- Estimated approximately 4,203 SF of 4″ CIP concrete paving with 6×6 welded wire fabric reinforcement.
- Provided comprehensive takeoffs for DDOT-standard parallel and standard ADA ramps to ensure campus accessibility.
- Calculated precise quantities for multiple curb styles, including 206 LF of 16″W x 18″H flush curbs.
- Accounted for specialized 11″ thick CIP concrete paving for S2 stairs to withstand increased structural loads.
- Included 8″ and 6″ gravel aggregate sub-bases across all paving and step sections for superior drainage and support.
- Detailed rebar schedules including #4 nose bars and #5 bottom mesh for various campus stair configurations.
- Identified and clarified discrepancies between “CIP Concrete Wall” labels and actual flush curb details in plans.
- Calculated approximately 97 LF of PCC curb and gutter systems following DDOT standard 606.01.
